Message from Attorney Inna Scott after the Election

Message from Attorney Inna Scott after the Election

This has been a hard week for us here at Global Law Advocates, and for many of you and your families, as well. With the results of the election and the return of a Trump administration in the White House, we will begin to see many changes as soon as President Trump takes office on January 20, 2025 – in particular with immigration policies.

We will keep you informed of any significant changes to immigration practices and policies as they are released and put into effect. All applications that are currently pending with USCIS will remain pending and will continue to be processed based on stated processing times. (Biden PIP clients, we will be contacting you separately about your cases.)

As we face uncertain changes to immigration enforcement, the best tool to protect yourself and your families is to Know Your Rights in case you are contacted by immigration officers. Please read below and learn your rights – in the next few weeks we be printing wallet-sized cards with these rights on them and they will be available at our office:

You have constitutional rights:

  • DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR if an immigration agent is knocking on the door.
  • DO NOT ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS from an immigration agent if they try to talk to you. You have the right to remain silent.
  • DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING without first speaking to a lawyer. You have the right to speak with a lawyer.
  • If you are outside of your home, ask the agent if you are free to leave and if they say yes, leave calmly.
  • GIVE THIS CARD TO THE AGENT. If you are inside of your home, show the card through the window or slide it under the door.

I do not wish to speak with you, answer your questions, or sign or hand you any documents based on my 5th Amendment rights under the United States Constitution.

I do not give you permission to enter my home based on my 4th Amendment rights under the United States Constitution unless you have a warrant to enter, signed by a judge or magistrate with my name on it that you slide under the door.
I do not give you permission to search any of my belongings based on my 4th Amendment rights.
I choose to exercise my constitutional rights.
These rights apply to citizens and noncitizens alike.

GLA promises to continue to stand beside you and to fight for your rights under the law to remain in the United States and obtain any lawful status that you may be eligible for. Please contact us at 206-774-8758 or info@globallawadvocates.com if you need assistance or have questions about your cases.
