Last week, we were very happy to hear that the Supreme Court blocked the Trump administration from cancelling the DACA program. This means that those who currently have DACA are still protected and can still renew their status. The fight for long-term protection for DREAMERS still continues, but for now, DACA is safe.
We do not know yet when USCIS will begin accepting new applications from people who have never applied for DACA before, but the eligibility requirements remain the same. The applicant must have been in the United States since 2007, was under 31 years old as of June 15, 2012, is currently in school or has received a high school diploma or GED, and does not have any serious criminal history.
In the meantime, if you believe you are eligible to apply for DACA for the first time, you can start preparing to apply by gathering proof of your presence in the U.S. since 2007. Proof of presence can be any document with your name and the date on it, such as school transcripts, medical records, paystubs, lease agreements, bank statements, or birth certificates of children.
