Last July, a federal judge issued a ruling that halted the DACA program for new applicants. The Biden administration appealed that ruling, and the case has been pending in the federal court system ever since. Today, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals will finally hear oral arguments about the legality of the DACA program. The court is unlikely to issue a ruling on the case today. However, we are now one step closer to getting answers for our many DACA clients, as well as the thousands of other DACA recipients across the U.S. We will keep you informed on any updates to this case.
As a reminder, the July 2021 ruling only affects people who are applying for DACA for the first time and people applying to renew their DACA status after their previous status was expired for more than one year. The ruling does NOT affect regular DACA renewal applications or applications for Advance Parole based on DACA. If you have questions about your case, please contact us at 206-774-8758.
